WHAT’S ON:
Happy Saturday!
Our Holiday Collection is on preorder this week. When we began designing, there was a moment where I thought “okay, what is a chic but not obvious Holiday print?”. It was a disaster. Last year, we developed a signature MM Tartan that we mixed with some great solids. I would say of that collection, probably the tartan Lizzy shift and all the solids performed equally.
But this year, I knew that I wasn’t the type of person, or designer, who was going to dive into…. “MM Blackwatch Tartan 2023”…? Blue, black, and green??? No thank you. I’m also an adult and not in grammar school, so I really did not see that happening. Plus, I know our Holiday clothes are of the quality that they’ll be leaned on for years, and really, who needs that much plaid? There are plenty of places where that is available, should you so choose.
SO, we went to the drawing board and thought about what great classics we should offer this year. Something new-ish, something a little familiar, is always the best in these cases. There’s nothing more festive year round than solid, deep red and the blackest black silk faille.
You may remember me waxing poetic about our new Piper Top and how we really worked to simplify the silhouette. We wanted to get away from something like our Virginie Top, which was great but a lot of sleeve. Well, we knew those details were perfect to incorporate into a festive holiday shift.
Enter Mimi. She is a perfect covered and festive option for day and night, well beyond December. I would wear this to pretty much any party, and while yes, it’s dressy, I even felt comfortable on the streets of NYC in the black. I get a lot of inquiries about what to wear to a “cocktail attire” wedding, or weddings that aren’t quite black tie. This is a perfect option.
Second, we were thrilled to offer a floor length version of our Antonia dress from last year, in COLORS! We named this style Veronica so there was no confusion. This dress hits the floor and makes you a long & lean vision! When we initially ran Antonia, the color card for this novelty was simply delicious, but I was certain no one would touch it in anything other than black. Now that a lot of you know and love it, I’m thrilled to say Veronica is doing well at the beginning of our preorder!
It took a lot for me to put out a stretch sequin. Let me tell you, and the customers have weighed in as well, this Italian sequin novelty is the best. It stretches to hell & back, I had a 8 month pregnant guest at my wedding in the original Antonia, and it never shows anything but sequined, sparkling glamour. It’s easy to size up or down, and extremely comfortable. It’s very expensive & only produced in small batches, so quantities are limited. Definitely don’t miss out on this preorder!
The red is truly the most festive, and if it’s your color, Veronica is a must. However, my heart is taken by Maharaja Gold. I’ll be wearing this for a gala I’m chairing this coming Wednesday, New Years Eve, and probably as a wedding guest this winter. It’s simply glowing, and I think a little more slimming. There’s a center back slit, so you can boogey all night long and move with ease.
Plus, I purposefully withheld a good dose of web stock from last Holiday season to offer again, for those who crave something a little more seasonal, or who missed out last year. There’s always someone who wants Holiday clothes at the end of September! You can shop those here, ready to hit your doorstep this week :)
INSPIRATION:
I don’t know about you, but my calendar is officially about to explode for the Holiday season! Whether you’re hosting or attending Thanksgiving, our Wednesday post offers some quips to keep it easy, fun & chic this year.
If you have been with us for awhile you know we have a few MM Spotify playlists, Molly Martini, Mrs. Martini, & MM Swim. One for cocktail hour, one for warm days by the pool, and one for the bride’s special day. We don’t add to them often, and I don’t create new playlists, because I think they each capture a specific vibe.
Lately, with the weather finally crisping and dressy Holiday occasions ahead, I’ve needed a switch up from the Spotify generated playlists we listen to at the HQ during the work day.
After a trip to the recently completed bar at Caviar Kaspia, which is divine, I went on Spotify to see if they had a playlist. The music was perfectly European and really made it feel like a slice of the Continent on Madison Ave (few places do). It also reminded me of the old mixes for Hotel Costes by Stephane Pompougnac, and I’ve been listening to those on repeat, all day every day this week. They put out one album a year for about a decade starting in 1999.
Their website also has daily streams. It helps to put your head down in the computer all day when your ears can pretend they’re in aughts Paris. I highly suggest taking a spin.
I’ll be scooping up some extra flowers & taper candles for the weekend in the spirit of life getting un peu plus cosmopolite, this holiday season.
