It’s a quiet weekend sandwiched between two crazy weeks. We wrapped our fall collection with much success. Fabric is being printed as we speak, patterns are being graded, systems are in place. Our holiday drop is right around the corner. More on that next week;)
My suitcase is staring at me y’all. We’ve been so focused on production and logistics this fall, travel has fallen to the back burner. Oh, the joys of running a small business. As the holidays ramp up, we’re about to hit the road again. I received a lovely message this week from a subscriber asking me to chat about travel. Where I love and where I don’t. I by no means identify as “travel being my thing”. I prefer the comforts of my own city inside my home. But I have come across a few places that have really delighted me over the past few years.
This beautiful property took my breath away. We stayed in Santa Barbara while launching a large spring collection a few years back, and made a very early dinner reservation here. We loved the atmosphere so much, we subsequently ate dinner here every evening of our trip. It is quite remote, so I would only recommend staying on property if you’re looking to primarily camp out. John and Jackie honeymooned here for $27 a night in 1953.
This large property is also one of my favorites in California. They have a spacious indoor bar with fabulous cocktails. There is also a outdoor beachside restaurant that looks out onto the ocean. Perfect for a long, relaxing day by the sea. A small warning, there is absolutely no cell phone service here whatsoever. Sam and I tried to launch a collection from this hotel and we laughed for hours at our useless phones.
Greenport is such a special little town on the North Fork of Long Island. When the Hamptons are a zoo and you just want to book a few days out of the city, this is the perfect spot. The atmosphere is so relaxed and the view is lovely. It does have a small Bates Motel vibe after dark, but in a charming way? I love an updated motel.
I spent my 30th birthday here. My brother planned the trip and my best friend from college who lives in Italy and produces our sweaters met us to celebrate. There’s nothing like having a martini during aperitivo looking out at the city of Florence.
Everyone has opinions about Harbour Island, myself included. While I love The Dunmore, it’s not my preferred place to stay. Rock House is closer to town, quieter, and has larger rooms (for a slightly better price point). The Dunmore is open to the public, so I prefer to dine there and stay at Rock House. There’s something thrilling about having to park your golf cart directly in front of a gigantic cliff of run down stairs.
Nothing is better than a staycation. This is where we camped out the weekend of my wedding and it couldn’t have been a better fit. The rooms were renovated during the pandemic closures and they’re top drawer. It really is an old school hotel that has anything you need for a glamorous event. You can call down for XL rolling racks, floor length mirrors, power steamers, you name it. If you’re a guest of the hotel, they gift you tickets to skip the line at Bemelmans.
Let me know in the comments below what should be next on my list. Bon voyage!
xx, MM
I love this list! I am finding myself hankering for a trip to plan following the craziness of the holidays and this is the perfect jumping off point, thank you!
