Saturday 10.20.23
Our five year anniversary is coming up on November 1st, and I’ve been reflecting on all the things we’ve learned over the years. I think Fall is the season I’ve changed my opinion of the most.
You have to understand, I come from a “traditional” design background (i.e. wholesale/department store planning). When I was attending FIT from 2009-2013, that still meant houndstooth tweeds hit department stores the third week of August. Jewel tone holiday silks must be in the windows mid September for holiday planning. And I considered myself a “Spring/Summer designer”. In those days, you pretty much picked a camp - Spring/Summer or Fall/Holiday. But what I’ve learned from having a direct to consumer brand? Fall/Holiday clothes that work for a Spring/Summer aesthetic can sometimes be the best!
Oh how the world has changed since then. It’s October 21st in New York and I’ve worn a jacket once. Eighty degree “second summer” lasts through October. It’s also the perfect Saturday to launch oodles and oodles of new webstock!
Our Montego print makes another splash return. We’re offering our best-selling navy and white colorway in three styles….sometimes when a print is perfect it’s too hard to choose just one! And as a reminder, our Veda caftan in Montego Floral is still available in select sizes on the site.
First up, we have our performance silk Topsy skirt. It’s our lightest silk yet, and I know you’ll love it as much as I do. We shirred yards and yards to make the most fun, flirty full skirt. Our original Topsy skirt was made in a beautiful but heavy linen blend. While it was gorgeous, it was meant for a Marie Antoinette budget, at an 80’s Ralph show, and weighed about fifteen pounds. I can’t wait to wear our new, lightweight version with a long sleeve button down and a sweater over my shoulders. Boots under would complete the Sloane Ranger look. If you’re a sneaker with dresses girl, this would be a good place to do that as well!
Next up is Felicity. Also cut in Montego Floral performance silk, she’s flirty and ruffly in the best way. I wore Felicity to my wedding welcome party (shown below sprinting from The Carlyle to the party…) because it’s such a celebratory dress. Montego Floral is neutral in the best way, all year long. And pockets? Do you have to ask! This would be perfect with a cardigan or jean jacket (again, not my look, but for many it’s a staple!) over top, or a button down underneath if you’re adventurous.
Bianca is our third offering in Montego Floral and is by far the most comfortable. We originally designed this dress as an update to our favorite Lorena silhouette. There’s something about the mock neck that makes her a little more special. Cut in our softest stretch crepe, she’s a dress you’ll pull out of your closet time and time again. Again, this is great with a jacket. I actually had a production sample sewn for myself, since we made tweaks after the initial sample, and I’ll show you that finalized one in photos tomorrow on instagram stories!
And of course we have some new black solids in the lineup! Our next black linen best seller, Natasha. Black linen is the perfect fall fabric. A dressy, chic look but cut in a lightweight breathable fabric. As yes, all the pockets are functional. She looks great with flats or dressed up with a chic earring and a coordinating black MM pashmina (new colors coming around the corner!) This one is truly a winner for anyone who lives south of Boston this season. And I’m happy to report, I have officially for the first time found/approved a PRINTABLE linen, so I can’t wait to cut Natasha in a linen print in 2024!
Finally, our most traditional fall print, MM Pansies, is back in our sold out Sylvie shirtdress! Sylvie is my personal favorite Thanksgiving dress. I think I’ve worn a Sylvie two years in a row. She hangs “away” from you but isn’t large enough to feel like a circus tent. The perfect amount of comfortable volume.
Happy Shopping!
