Happy Saturday!
We publish our Saturday Newsletter at 6 am EST, and I’m sure some of you may be reading this earlier than usual watching the Coronation of King Charles III! Well, we’ll still keep this newsletter (mostly) on our regular scheduled programming ;)
WHAT’S ON:
Our Collins pants are back for their first ever restock! Originally presented for Fall 2021, I’ve been pulling them out all Spring, and new they would be a perfect addition to our Early Summer lineup! Just until Sunday (tomorrow) 5pm ladies… A bit more on what makes them so divine:
I’ve dreamt about the perfect pair of high waisted, wide leg trousers long before we made them. After surviving an extended decade of skinny, stretchy, painted-on white jeans, I’d had enough. Yes, everyone keeps a pair, but what do they inspire?
I had one pair of RL Collection (sample sale) white high waisted silk shorts for years, which were great for my early twenties, but certainly not welcome in my late twenties/early thirties wardrobe… much less anywhere under 80 degrees! I couldn’t help but notice my Pinterest was becoming an endless array of Heroines in trousers.
Enter our Collins pants. They’re high waisted, designed to fit more like a high waisted skirt than a pant. And have the ability to tuck into, or not. They are wide enough to skim over your backside and legs comfortably, but not so wide you look like a clown. And they come with a perfectly pressed crease to keep the look sharp. Your dry cleaner will easily be able to keep that crisp crease every time you clean! I wear them to travel, to work, to dinner. With literally any and all MM Sweaters! Quinn + Collins? Forget about it.
I try to stay away from using the word “effortless” when describing personal style. We all put a sizable amount of effort into our appearance and should be proud to admit it to our peers. What gravitates me towards trousers is ease, not lack of effort. More than that, unexpected ease. It’s not a look everyone immediately grabs/can find. But luckily, we’ve put enough work into the pattern making that these work for just about everyone (maybe with a little tailoring here or there.) And bare in mind, these are WIDE leg, make no mistake about it! But once you know, you know. Something about this kind of trouser just says “welcome to my home, what can I offer you?”, instead of the sometimes fretful impression a *party dress* can give (though we do still love those for the correct occasion!).
The ease of a floaty, yet perfectly pressed trouser, and a white shirt in the summer is a look I’ll crave for decades. Come fall, I switch my linen shirts for oxfords & turtlenecks and feel just as polished. I wear our Collins pants all year and am so glad we’re filling your closets with them yet again. Not to be missed!
Of course, Collins also pairs with our classic nautical striped Nina Sweater, now finally in stock! In three fantastic colors: Harbor Blue - White, Camel - White, & White - Navy. Worn on their own, over a white shirt, or thrown over your shoulders, they’re an MM Essential year round. I particularly love these over the shoulders with a floral shift. The play of stripes & florals always peeks my visual interest, and luckily these colors go with just about any MM print!
WEEKLY INSPIRATION:
I’m sure you’ve been inundated with Met Gala content, so while A Line of Beauty is a must to see this week, I’m also very excited to see this new exhibit of Richard Avedon photography at Gagosian Chelsea. It’s ahead of a book to be published on the late, great photographers work, which should definitely be part of the MM Book List I’m thinking of putting together for y’all…
So much is happening this weekend! While I’m usually a fan of a quieter Saturday, with the Coronation happening this morning, and the Kentucky Derby this afternoon, I’m reminded of a source that y’all might not know! Whether you’re in London or Louisville, a warm or cold climate - if you should ever find yourself in need of some ladylike gloves, this is the source. Approved by HM Queen Elizabeth, they have everything you could need from 9am to 2am in just about any color, and ship to the US. If your local to NYC, Semoneta (an Italian company without a website) is a quick fix and a wild ride. It’s located in the 50’s on Madison.
If your Saturday isn’t starting as early or as prim, I’ll suggest taking a spin on this roundup for a Derby Day cocktail. It’s not my speed, but they have plenty of interesting options to shake things up!
A Sunday screening in honor the weekend’s theme would be great with this, this or this title from our MM Approved Movie List. With homemade popcorn (maybe with a little truffle for the newly coronated King) and a martini, that’s a perfect cap to my personal celebration weekend (and the close of our Collins preorder! ;)
