The last six weeks of the year felt like a battlefield. A glamorous, festive one, of course. But you get it. Thanksgiving, decorating, Christmas, trunkshows, shipping, New Years and on and on. The last thing on my priority list has been myself. I’m terrified to open my medicine cabinet or makeup drawer…it’s a mess y’all. I started to put together a refresh/refresh/redo list on my phone and thought, let’s have some fun with this!
Staples I’m taking with me into the new year
This is my favorite pre blow-dry heat protectant. The name alone should sell you. We all need a little trauma treatment in our cosmetic bag, right? I use a dime size on wet hair before a blow dry.
I discussed last year how devastated I was that my YSL lipstick had finally been discontinued and the back stock was also gone. I found a great replacement at Green’s Pharmacy in Palm Beach. It’s not perfect but I’m wearing it exclusively now.
Speaking of color (this is blond specific) I made a big change in how I color my hair last year and I love it. For decades, I did a million foils to achieve a bright and cool blond. It takes forever and is tremendously expensive. My colorist suggested I try a double process instead for my wedding, and I love it. It takes half the time and is a little more cost effective. If you’re looking for dimension and different tones, this is not for you. But if you’ve been searching for a Hitchcock level blonde, this is the ticket. Warning, it is really, really hard on your hair, so a good hair mask once a week is critical. The good news is, your hair will be so dry, blowouts last forever and you’ll never need dry shampoo;)
New items I’m going to try
I’m very embarrassed to admit I don’t have a nice hair dryer. Dyson has spent more than enough advertising dollars to show me how wonderful their product is. I’m finally going to rip the bandaid off this year. If my colorist saw my current blow dryer, she would be very, very upset with me.
It’s definitely time to upgrade my hot rollers. I don’t even know how old mine are…yikes. My colorist uses this brand of hair dryer, so I’m going to give these a go.
This isn’t new but it needs to come back into my routine. I swore by Pond’s cold cream all through high school and college. I kept it in the fridge and applied it every night before bed instead of moisturizer. It’s labeled as a makeup remover but it really doubles as moisturizer. Someone it fell off the grocery list a few years ago and it needs to come back! I like the green top.
I love this brand’s mascara. I need a new cream based blush and this happy shade of pink is calling my name. You can use it on your lips and cheeks. Love that.
There wasn’t a Bobbi Brown shimmer brick I didn’t own in the mid 2000’s. I didn’t even care that every single one would break all over my mom’s carpet. Had to have it. Bobbi Brown (the founder) is back with a new line, Jones Road. I love their moisturizer and am going to try this shimmery eye shadow. She seems to be the queen of shimmer.
Questions for you
Toiletry and cosmetic bags? D. Porthault discontinued my favorite kind. I love the plastic inside and outside feature. They’re so durable. The fabric varieties stain so easily with makeup, ect. I’ve received many requests on Instagram to start making MM toiletry bags. Let me know in the comments if you’d be interested! I know I’d love a refresh.
Hair dryers…let me know in the comments which you love. I’m having a hard time deciding.
Happy Shopping! MM
