Today I’d like depart from our usual Saturday newsletter and share some very happy personal stories. I’m thrilled to share our beautiful wedding coverage on Over the Moon . Sarp and I were married in the lush garden within the Cooper Hewitt Museum, the city where we both live and fell in love. When I started the design process for our wedding, I sought out to design gowns for myself and my mother. My passion and background is in custom occasion clothing. It quickly became apparent I (alongside Sam of course) would design much, much more for my friends and family. What started as the wedding of our dreams became the most meaningful design project I’ve ever endeavored. Please enjoy these personal photos from our wedding.
My college friends, Catherine & Sam. Catherine is wearing our Violette gown in lilac (hemmed). Sam wore vintage Oscar de la Renta. My dear friend Hattie in our original Margot dress. She really leaned into the “garden attire” dress code! Some of my dearest high school friends in their favorite MM shifts, plus a June dress. My mother wore a custom gown made of satin faced organza printed with our Malabar floral. She really let me take the reigns, and I wanted her to be covered, formal, but appropriate for the daytime outdoor setting. The fabric was perfectly floaty, and I love green as an unexpected MOB color choice. A detail of the bodice overlay’s construction. The curved seaming and bias cut fabric create those magical cones… It reminded me of something Tracy Lord would wear in “The Philadelphia Story”. When my mother tried it on for the first fitting, she smiled and said that she felt like Maria from “The Sound of Music” on her wedding day, and she did again. I was thrilled to design gowns for Augusta & Colette, my incredible wedding planners. I wanted them to feel seamless to the event, chic, but comfortable enough to run the show! And, hopefully, have something to wear again in the future. Collette wore a sapphire silk faille shirt gown, similar to our Sylvie dress. Augusta wore a gown with a navy silk crepe blouse bodice, and a silk gazar column skirt with our signature Pansy print. My dear friend Hillary loves a classic strapless gown, and wore a shocking pink silk faille strapless bodice gown with a tiered, full skirt. I was so happy to dress my high school girlfriends. From left, Colleen wore a calming blue version of our Veda caftan, Anne wore our DeDe gown, Rae wore a navy silk crepe gown with a ruffled V neck & full sleeve, Lauren wore a gown version of our Lady dress in Devonshire silk gazar. On my right, Katie wore a custom, off the shoulder caftan in Sailboats crepe, Julia wore our Dahlia gown, Caitlin wore a custom gown version of our Adella dress in mint taffeta with apple grosgrain details, and Kathleen wore our Azaela gown. Veda is such a perfect dress for maternity. We hadn’t even launched it yet, Colleen was the first to wear and I loved it. Anne is a sucker for blue & white, so Dede was a perfect choice. I loved seeing my friends’ personalities in the clothes we collaborated on. A detail shot of Hillary and Lauren’s gowns. You can’t go wrong with a full skirt! My dear college friend Catherine, who designs our sweaters, wanted something similar to our Lori dress. I designed a gown version with a full sweep, and she trusted me to put her in this cheery yellow, which we jokingly referred to as “big bird yellow”. Catherine is a great photographer and captured her own film throughout the wedding, as well as the professionals. My fabulous friend, Amber Elliot, who is the Arts & Philanthropy Writer for the Houston Chronical. Since Amber flew all the way up from Texas, I knew she needed a gown with some punch! I developed this gown for Holiday 2022, but held it in the archives for the right moment. I knew she would shine in a custom version, here cut with a silk gazar column body in black & white Silhouette Floral, with a black taffeta bodice. The back of the gown features a hand tied sash that trailed the floor. Please check your email for Part 2:) Too many beautiful gowns to share in one newsletter:)
Cheers, Molly
